  2. Illene, hang in there. That first month is always the hardest but the feeling of success when you have pushed through it and have succeeded in your goal is always worth the temporary pain and discomfort now. Here is a link for encouragement. Hang in there and best of luck. Jacob Henderson. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=628477057225847&set=vb.109091562497735&type=2&theater

  6. Hey you two determined hikers! Please keep up the positive attitudes and just set the pace at what your body can handle. 2 miles or 20 miles/day... each step forward, whether hiked, crawled or slithered, is always One Step closer to your Katahdin! I depart SoBo on 01Jun14 headed your way, so looking forward to following your progress, inspiring myself to keep going as well. I'm sky chicken, contact henpoo@live.com . My husband and his company and Navy Crew are also cheering you on from Sunny, Sandy, Hot, Dry ...yeah, over there...! Godspeed to you both.

  10. Hello I meet you last Saturday at laurel fork falls in Hampton, TN. I hope that you are doing well. I have been praying for both of you this past week. You asked one of my boys to carry your backpacks for you. : ) he thought about it more that day and decided that he would need a horse or an atv. peace, Amy Larimer

  12. Now that I am home I can check out your blog. I am really enjoying reading about your adventures. Freckels and I finished on Oct 19 here in PA with about 50 friends and relatives. We did Katahdin Oct 4, and then I had some hiking to do in PA, that I had missed when we came thru, because of an injury. It's good to be done and home. I am hoping to hear from you when you come thru PA. It would be wonderful to share my home with you. Good luck and health for the remainder of your trip.

  13. Here I am in my nice warm dry house checking out your progress. I am sending you all the positive vibes I can because I understand your drive to finish. It will not be easy but know that I am for you the whole way and looking forward to seeing you both when you come thru PA, which I am sure you will. Thought I would correct your write up of several days ago, It was Freckles who had two failed attempts at a thru hike. I completed a section hike in 2011 and then decided to thru hike this year 2014 to beat the record for the oldest female, which I did at age 74. Freckles hiked along with me and was able to complete a thru hike on her 3rd try. We both know the determination and effort it takes to complete and really wish you the best. Drag'n fly

  14. Just saw your post about leaving Maine. It's a wise decision under the circumstances. And remember: the ATC badge says "2000 Miler" so you don't even get credit for the last 186 miles :) Seriously, I'm so impressed by what you and your Mom have accomplished. I couldn't believe it when I saw you at Lonesome Lake. You made a deep impression on us all. Looking forward to seeing you in western Mass.

  15. Thanks a million to Hendo & Hendo's mom for giving me a ride at Swift Run Gap, and thank Deb (Firestarter) putting me up for the nite on Friday May 1st and a ride back to the trail on Sat May 2nd. I really enjoyed getting to meet you guys. Real trail angels all of you! Unfortunately, I had to cut my hike short cuz of a recurring problem with achilles tendonitis in my right foot, so had to get off the trail at Thornton Gap and come back to Florida. I'll be okay and plan to get back up to VA in September and hike on north. Good luck on your hike, say hi to Deb for me, and hope to meet ya'll again on the trail! Best wishes to all of you, you all are the best! I love the pics of the weekend hike with Deb and your other friend! It was fantastic weather that weekend, when you guys were at the shelter Sat nite, I camped at Big Meadows campground. Full moon was awesome! Thanks again!
